1999 Saab question

hi I am considering buying a 1999 9-3 saab. There are two ads that im interested in. The first one had an engine picture with a RED valve cover. The second car has a BLACK valve cover. If they are the same car, why the different color? Also, there is only one engine for this model right?

is there anything to consider when buying a the 1999 models?

Thank you

Re: 1999 Saab question

in mid-year 1999 saab changed the engine management system to the new one (t7) they have the black idm's. if i was you and wanted a reliable saab, get the red idm car. t7 is junk. you will have constant throttle body, mass airflow, and crankcase ventilation issues if you go with the black idm car. t5 (red idm) cars are bulletproof. t5 cars are a bit slower (auto trans) but well worth the peace of mind. i know, i am a saab technician.
