1991 sunbird advice

Im looking to buy my daughter her first car.We looked at a 1991 sunbird tonight. The body was perfect.Glass was perfect. For the year of the car,it was in very good condition. It has a four cyl. engine and an auto tranny. So i guess my question to all you sunbird folks is...............Are 1991 sunbirds with 4cyl.engines any good to own or are they a fix daily kind of car. This car,by the way has 230,000 km.on it.For you US folks thats aprox.130,000 mi.The fellow is asking $1600.00 or best.any help would be great.thanks in advance

Re: 1991 sunbird advice

$1600 is way too high.

I bought my 89 with a 4cyl 5 speed transmission with 96k miles on it for $800.

Sounds like a good car, they are dependable, and very easy to work on. Grab a Haynes manual at your local car parts store and it will tell you everything you could ever need regarding repairs.

I would be wary, though. At 130,000 miles my head gasket went. Took only about 8 hours to replace it, though.
