2.4 worth doing?

Hey guys, ive been running after an eco cavvy for awhile but it just popped into my head, i could find a 96-02 z24 cavy with a 2.4 twin cam for pretty cheap plus i want a z24 cuz of bigger tire size, 2 door, extra features etc. Im just wondering if the 2.4 is worth decking out? I havent done anything to my pushrod 2.2 cuz i know it wud be a dead end for how much money i wanna put into it. The eco and the 2.4 are both DOHC and put out around the same hp and torque. PLus i like the idea of cast iron block instead of aluminum.

I know a few people have 2.4's, just wondering how they run? Are they reliable and pretty snappy? Thnx for input guys.

Re: 2.4 worth doing?

hmm im pretty sure an eco would last longer than a 2.4, but what are your plans for the motor? Turbo, nitrous, etc?

Re: 2.4 worth doing?

After driving a 96 2.2 around for a year and then test driving my friend's z24, the difference is like day/night, i loved it. I finally bought one and I love it, it's way quicker and before i was focused on exterior mods but i love the look of z24's so im perfectly content with the way it looks now. But on the other hand, the z24 engine is discontinued, the eco is still going and getting alot of positive comments so... yea thats my

Re: 2.4 worth doing?

He blew his engine by not taking proper care of the oil lol that by no means should draw you away from a z24 lol

I blew my engine exactly how lance said, didnt keep up the oil on it.

I really dont see anything that is wrong with the 2.4, most of the questions I've noticed about there cavy being broken or something messed up on it has to do with the 2.2 or the 2200.

I think your idea of turbo/super and that other stuff would be a good idea for the car.

Thumbs up Re: 2.4 worth doing?

i had a z24 until i had to get shipped off so i was forced to sell, i have a 2.2 now (non ecotec) and im planning on gettin a 2.4 for it just cuz it was a beautifal engine, nice and snappy off the line, and never had problems with it, if u need to find one, go to crateenginedepot.com they got fully completed crate engine for 1500 then whatever shipping is,

so 2.4 i give 2 thumbs up

Re: 2.4 worth doing?

IM EXCITED!! Im gonna go test drive a 2000 Z24 Coupe tommorow!!
150k excellent kept, daughter driven
5 speed [enhanced getrag gearbox 2000 and beyond]
dark green
4 new winter tires included..

For $5000CDN!! So im gonna chop him down at least a few hundred and it will be WELL worth it in my opinion, this is finally what ive been looking for. I just finished reading this wicked page, seems like 2000+ cavaliers really got smartened up! I thought all those enhancements were pretty impressive, especially for the z24 coupe

Take a gander thru there, it really made me smile! New axle ratio, new abs, new bus wiring, improved cooling system..
http://media.gm.com/ca/gm/en/product...0Cavalier.html

Hope she runs good! Wish me luck! This is finally what ive been waiting for..
