Temp Guage acting up.
I need a bit of help. I have a 2004 Cavalier and the temp guage has been acting kind of weird. At first it just seemed to be overheating, but it wasnt. Just the guage saying it was. Now the guage goes way past all markings and even catches on the speedometer sometimes. I havent had a chance to look at it very close yet, but i dont think the sensor would make it do that. I think it might be the cluster going bad. Any ideas? And how hard is it to remove the cluster on a cavalier? Im used to working on trucks and military equipment. Thanks.

No coolant on end of temp sensor and it will not work Check the engine temp sensor for the gauge and also make sure a wire is not shorted out or a lose connection. MT

Re: Temp Guage acting up.
Sounds like the sensor to me or what MT said above. Clusters just don't up and fail like that.

Re: Temp Guage acting up.
I know this original posting is a couple of years old, but can you please tell me what you did to solve the problem. I am having exactly the same problem. I know the car is not overheating. I have also already replaced the temp sendor unit on the engine. I think the problem is the gauge cluster itself. Please help if possible.

AF frowns on waking up or hijacking old dead post. On your problem it is best to start a New Thread/Post. And someone will help you. Give all info. They have two engine tempt sensors. Like did you repalace the right one And. Engine and mileage and year and service history exc.

Re: Temp Guage acting up.
I didn't start a new thread because it is the EXACT same problem. I am trying to find the answer. Do you know the answer to what solved this problem?

bad cluster, don't think so...next time it does it plug in tool (dealer or any shop) and compare temperature readings
