Sunroof leaking....99 GTP

I have searched, but can not seem to find the right answer. I have a 99 GTP with a sunroof that is starting to leak. The headliner around the passenger side sun visor gets soaked after it rains pretty hard. Does not seem to leak when washing it. I did not notice any water coming from the overhead lights, or any other place. The floorboard was not wet, either.

Where are the sunroof drains located? I looked around and do not see any holes, or anything that I would consider to be a drain. Do you have to remove any of the plastics around the sunroof to get to the drain?

One day, after it had rained for most of the day, I went out to my car. The front passenger side seat bottom was covered with water. Seems that the water had dripped from the sun visor area onto the seat.

Any help would be great.

TIA,

Thomas

Re: Sunroof leaking....99 GTP

here is the proceedure for checking sunroof fitment/adjustment, but regretfully, no pics.

Complete the following steps in order to test the fit:

Insert a piece of paper between the sunroof and the weatherstrip.
Close the window.
Pull out the paper.
If there is some resistance when you pull out the paper, the fit is correct. A minimal gap is necessary to ensure that the water to the sunroof drain hoses is not excessive. Excessive gap clearance may cause objectionable wind noise.

You can adjust the height and centering of the sunroof window in order to make sunroof window to roof adjustments.

A drain trough in the sunroof module provides drainage. The drain trough encircles the sunroof window and leads to drain hoses that are located in each corner of the sunroof module. A drain channel spans the rear of the sunroof module and directs water into the drain trough. The front drain hoses are routed down the windshield pillars and out the center of each pillar between the upper and lower door hinges. The rear drain hoses are routed down the C-pillars.

Before you make any adjustments, verify that the draining system is not plugged or disconnected. Use a small container in order to pour water into the sunroof module drain trough. If the water flow is restricted, use compressed air in order to blow out any material that is plugging the drain system. Test the drain system again.

Do following steps in order to determine if the drain hoses are disconnected to the sunroof module without removing the headliner:

Pull down on the headliner around the sunroof opening to release the velcro retainers and with a flashlight inspect the sunroof drain hose connection to the sunroof module.
Reposition the headliner after inspection.

Re: Sunroof leaking....99 GTP

Ya Grand AMs hav this same trouble with the drains/sunroof leaking and or being pluged.

My GT drain hoses cracked where they attach to the module when they were painted,
and the water ran inside the pillars, right onto the fuse boxes

Now I know why so many GAs hav faulty fuse boxes.
And bad BCM

Xero, on Grand Am and Aleros part of the problem on the driver's side fuse box and any possible water penetration/moisture around the area of the PCM module (left dash) may be due to a totally unprotected intake vent located under the driver's side front fender at the apron. I replaced the plastic inner fender liner/splash guard a while back and saw that deficiency. I used water proof sealant on the splash guard during reassembly and at the top of the fender under the hood. FYI.
