1997 s10/zr2 trans. problem

the problem i am having is, when i put my truck in drive, it is already in 3rd gear.. and takes off in 3rd gear, it doesn't shift on its own, but if i manually shift it to 2nd gear, it will go to second.. but when i shift it to 1st it stays in 2nd and if i shift from 3rd to OD it stays in 3rd? it makes it extremely hard to pick up speed, taking off in 3rd gear..

Re: 1997 s10/zr2 trans. problem

Could be.

But the ignition switch is not the key tumbler.

It is the black mudule in the bottom of the steering column.

Re: 1997 s10/zr2 trans. problem

there is what I guess you could call a push rod, that runs from the tumbler to the ign switch. Had the same prob with mine. ONly takes about 20 mins to replace including the time to take all the under dash plastic off.

The Tumbler is another story, MAKE SURE YOU ARE CAREFUL with the Yellow wire in the Colume or the ABS will blow.
