Is there a better way?

Hello to all,

On my 89' Camry the indicator on the dash is lite indicating a rear bulb is out again. When one has no one to look back there while pressing on the brake pedal is their a better way to check? I wonder if the 3rd brake light bulb is out? Any pointers?

Back it close to a building, one with a big glass window would be best, and hit the brakes. Watch the reflection in the window. Though not as clear you could use any wall. You might have to step outside the car and reach in with your foot to see it.

Hello rimfire22 and RIP,

another way to check if their is a burned out brake light when you have no one to hold the brake pedal down is to get a pipe or broomstick or something similar; cut it to the proper length (if necessary) so you can place it between the brake peddal and the drivers seat. adjust the drivers seat if needed. done.

Re: Is there a better way?

I just put my back pack against the brake pedal to check my brake lights. Just need to move the pedal enough to release the plunger on the brake light switch, don't need to press the pedal enough to stop the car.

Re: Is there a better way?

Hello to all,

Yeah I already tried those suggestions and so far as I can tell no brakes lights seem to be burnt out! I know it must be something. Even the 3rd brake light is fine. What a perplexing problem.

Re: Is there a better way?

idmetro,

Thanks for your swift response. I'll start looking/checking out the light sockets and see what happens. If I can't find anything a trip to Toyota may be more handier.
