Re: Mclaren F1 - Customer Order Form

Mr. Peter C something or the other.

Looks like a UK address, since the phone number seems to be 0780 232120 or something, and it seems to have the typical English 6-character Postcode, but the country could also be Switzerland (don't know what Swiss postcodes look like, or if they even have such things).

Deposit seems to be 106,000.00 GBP.

Edit: Dated Jan. 14, 1995.
There's a December 14, 1995 date on there as well.

Interesting stuff.

Wow, nice find. Though I would take photos of everything when buying a car like a McLaren F1 but I dont think I would like a photo like this out and about on the internet.

Re: Mclaren F1 - Customer Order Form

Hmmm - next to the field "Customer Reference Number" is written "At least 17,000,000". I hate to say it, but I very much doubt that is a genuine order form! Or at least, the layout of the form may be genuine, but I don't think there is a genuine order on it...

It's probably income, not purchase price.

I doubt its income. Why they need to know that? Thats not the kind of thing you put on an order form?

...for the same reason they'd check your credit any time you sign a lease, ask for a loan, or make a purchase of a very expensive item.

The order form may very well be false, but 17 million (of some currency) is possibly income.

I doubt that McLaren has any reason to doubt its customer's purchasing power, but if such information is requested, it's probably a guard against scams, and/or a formality.

Re: Mclaren F1 - Customer Order Form

There is no way they would put "At least 17,000,000" on the order form. Its not (for lack of a better word), polite (or proper). I see no reason to put the income on there. If he got to the stage where he needs the order form, would his credit not have been checked already?

No, you would never ask income on an order form. If it was a credit form, sure. But then, no one would disclose income like that, I don't think.

What if I walk into McLaren and they find I have perfect credit on my high limit card, timely repayment of loans, and no bounced checks ever, but in truth I have no actual means (savings or income) to pay for an F1 in a reasonable amount of time (i.e. before I'm dead.)?

The line says "Cusomter ____ ____ 17,000,000." So if you can determine what the next two words are, feel free. It appears to be "Customer's Reported Income" or "Customer's Reference Income." The quesion is: does anybody have a better explanation for such a high figure? Income, insurance? Surely it wouldn't be the asking price of the car, and 17 million sounds excessive for insurance purposes. The deposit amount is listed further down the page, so it can't be that either.

Every time I have to state my income on a form, I always either give a range, or say "at least" to show I meet the minimum requirement for something.

If you're so sure it's NOT income, then what is it? If you have a better explanation then do tell before being so quick to discount mine...
