Need help ASAP

Well just the other day my starter went out on me. so i got a new starter, put it in, drives ok for 2 days, feels like the timing may be a lil off from the dizzy side when i took it off to put in the starter, well i was coming home from work the other night, and came up to a stop sign, i roll up and stop, then start to go and it just cuts off on me.i thought maybe i just ran outta gas, so i ride with my gf and pick some up, but still no luck. it just turns over and backfires occasionally.i checked the timing belt, thinking maybe it jumped a tooth or something, there is a bit more slack on one side of the belt, then the other, but it is still in tact. i tried adj the timing on the dizzy side, but no luck there either. im trying to get this fixed today so i can make it to work tomorrow, so any help will be appreciated. thanks
