Unhappy 3rd gen door pins...

I bought a new door pin for my drivers door on my 89 many months ago, but after I bought it, I took a good hard look at how it is set up and stuck that now pin in what I thought would be the best place for it...my tool box

Im REALLY not looking foreword to this task...Can anyone give me some pointers to make this a little less painful...
When I look at the way this is set up, and I think about how heavy this door is, it makes me want to, oh I dont know, ____________(insert something thoroughly unpleasant here)

There has got to be a better way than just muscling through this.
Feel free to wow me with a revolutionary new way to face this fear...

Re: 3rd gen door pins...

Support the door on the end with it open. Use either a jack or engine hoist. You'll need the tool for compressing the door spring to reinstall it. Remove the spring, beat the pin up and out. Mark the outline of the body side of the hinge and then remove the 3 bolts holding the body side of the hinge on. You'll have to lift the outer end of the door and move it around to get the body side hinge half out. Once it is out, replace the bushings in it and then reinstall it. Make sure to get it in the same position it was in before you removed it. Line up the pin holes and drive the pin in place, making sure the head is completely seated. Next put the door spring in the compressor tool and reinstall it.
Hint.....you'll invent new curse words doing this job, it is a real pain.

Re: 3rd gen door pins...

I had the same problem with my old camaro about a year ago. I thought it was a pretty easy job myself, all you have to do is pull out your wallet and give someone about 40 bucks and let them do all the frustrating work for you
