1993 escort wagon no start

Car was running fine one minute, I tured it off and went into a store. When I came back, no start. Battery 2 months old, starter 1 year old. Hearing a faint "click" from what looks like relay switches mounted on the passenger side of the firewall. The car is an automatic. I don't lose headlights or domelight or anything when turning the key to the "on" position. Any ideas?????

have your battery and alternator tested anyway...

could be neutral safety switch. If it isn't starting in park, try starting in neutral.

if you can figure it out without electrocuting yourself, pull the wires off your ignition switch and hotwire it to see if the switch is bad.

Re: 1993 escort wagon no start

If you know how to do this, you can take a volte meter, and hook it up the the starter solenoid, which is connected to the starter its self. If the solenoid is getting 12v, and the car doesn't start... you have to replace the starter solenoid unit (they are built as one piece).

If your not getting 12v (or close to it) at the solenoid, you have an electrical problem somewhere else.

If your 93 escort is like the one I was working on, the starter is easy to get to. Just put the front of the car up on wheel ramps. The starter is mounted on the back of the engine. You can reach it with your arms from the ground. Just connect a volt meter to the solenoid with alegator clips, and check for voltage when the key is turned to the start position.

Be especially careful of one thing. Even though your having problems now, when they turn the key the car might actually start! So just keep that in mind.
