What kind of motor is this?

Not sure where to post this so no flame about it.

i know the pictures aren't all that great at all but let me know what you think. it's straight from japan and all but when i bought it they said it isn't exactly like the 4g63, that it as some extra sensors on it or something. when my mechanic put it in, he said it wasn't the same motor either and that the only thing he could use off of it was the block itself. i know it looks pretty crummy but that is just dirt and oil pilled up. i opened it up after i bought it and it is a champ. to me it looks like a 4g63 but i'm no expert.

Re: What kind of motor is this?

well I can't see anything in the pics, so I'll just ignore those. But just going off of your mech's description I would say it's probably a cyclone motor, and yes most of it will work.

Re: What kind of motor is this?

Yeah, looks like a cyclone engine to me too. If you look at the first pic the pulley's are set up just like my Talon's were (god knows I fucked around with belts enough) and though hard to read, the valve cover looks like a 4g63's.

Re: What kind of motor is this?

It is indeed the 4g63, weather its a 6 or 7 bolt though, I can't tell...

Re: What kind of motor is this?

By the looks of the valve cover and the spark plug cover it looks like a 1st gen 4g63 to me. I have no idea if it would be a 6 or 7 bolt but it deffinatly looks like a 1st gen to me.

Re: What kind of motor is this?

Here is a simpler way to tell...

6 bolts have 5 star cam gears and 7 bolts have 4 star cam gears.

How many of you guys actually knew that bit of information? I actually discovered this on accident one day while observing my two motors. Got online and did some research and sure enough they are seperated like that. So if anybody ever looks at a 2g that supposedly has a 6 bolt swap, just give the cam gears a quick look to see if its in fact a true swap.

Re: What kind of motor is this?

Although, you could always put the 2g head on the 6 bolt block like I am going to do

You have to do a good bit of machine work for them to bolt up correctly.
