Startup Crackling Sound Video

Okay guys, so here it is.... I don't know if you guys remember but about a year ago I thought my timing belt broke when I tried to start my car one morning and it just rumbled really badly. Timing belt was checked and everything seemed fine. Since that incident though, cold startups would cause a crackling sound around the driver side upper plenum area. This would only happen on the first startup of the day until recently... As time went on, it's just gotten worse and now, it crackles almost everytime I start my car. I was finally able to get a video camera and record it:

If anyone has any idea as to what it is please help cause I am seriously stumped! Thanks in advance!!!

P.S. I was getting hella annoyed because my mom was eating and not paying attention to what we were saying! LOL

Re: Startup Crackling Sound Video

Sorry man, I don't have the right program to play the movie. First thought that comes to mind though is the engine grounding strap

Perhaps something is sparking there. Have somebody else start the car, maybe at night as well, and see if you see anything.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: Startup Crackling Sound Video

i watched the clip twice. i can't hear really much of anything when you start it up, except for a few high pitch crackles. the sound quality is horrible. you might try to re-record it, putting the camera right next to where the sound comes from. we really could care less about the image, its the sound that is the matter.

Re: Startup Crackling Sound Video

^^Alright, I'll try recording it again when I have time. Thing is, the camera we used is actually pretty good....I don't know why everything came out so crappy!!! Worse part, I'm still driving the car around because I don't have any other way to get to work.

Re: Startup Crackling Sound Video

camera might be good in regards to the picture, but the microphone on all digital cameras pretty much suck. so get the mic as close to the sound as possible. also, watch the vid clip afterwards to determine if you got a good sample before taking the trouble to upload and post.

again, who cares what the vid looks like, its the sound quality you're aiming for.

Eeehhhhhhh!

What language are you speaking?

Anyways, for those of you who can't hear, right when he starts it up it sounds like some belt creaking or possibly a small rat caught in between cams.
