CV joint info or part #?

Mine is a 97.5 GS.130,000 miles. About 10,000 miles ago i had the CV joint replaced on the passenger side. The place that did the job had ordered the wrong part and the spline would not fit. I believe the GS has a heavy duty version, as opposed to the LS. Does anyone know how i can be sure that i got the right part. Does anyone know where i can order this part, and what is the part #? P.S....The reason i need to replace it is because there is a loud clunk when i go into gear. Especially reverse. It also does not shift gears well. Both Tranny and Hub has been replaced already.

Which CV Joint...inner or outer? Or are you looking for a new or remanufactured axle half shaft?

Re: CV joint info or part #?

I re-read my post and realized i was not clear. After the shop tried to put the wrong axle halfshaft in, the passenger side, they later corrected it and it seems to work fine now. The clunking is now on the drivers side. I jacked up the wheel and moved it back and forth, while in park. There is alot of play, but im not sure if it is the inner or outer. At this stage id like to rplace it with a new or reman axle halfshaft.

A GM half shaft will be expensive. I heard the Moog remanufactured ones are good and cost a alot less. Do you plan on DIY or having a shop do the work?

Re: CV joint info or part #?

I would like to do this job myself. It seems that when i have a shop do any work that is specific to the GS, and not the LS, they mess it up. I once asked a mechanic if he could change the SC oil and he told me it was part of the regular engine oil. Do you know where i can get the Moog axle?

Re: CV joint info or part #?

You can get a remanufactured unit at most parts stores carquest, napa, bumper to bumper maybe advanced. I use a rebuilder i used when I had my garage.
You can buy rebuild kits but it generally is cheaper with a rebuilt unit especially if you have to replace the other boot.
Before you leave the store lay your old one next to the rebuilt check for length and size. As they charge a core charge take your old one with you.
Have it ordered before you go a warehouse item.
