Hey,
Ineed some urgent help, since where i am currently at, there are no GM dealerships. My car died at the lights and it just will not start, there is a spark, my starter is turning, I checked the fuel presure check port and there was no presure no fuel with ignition on and even at the time of cranking. The security light is not flashing, just stays on, checked fuses and relays-nothing, I can hear the fuel pump working but for some reason the fuel is not reaching. It is a 3.4 V6 engine. Any ideas what the problem might be??? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks |

Re: 00 grand am won't start
If the security lights on then you fuel and spark may be disabled.
Hav you tried leaving the key on for the 10 min reset thing? PassLock reset. Try and start the car, leave the key in the "ON" position for 10 mins. Turn off for 10 sec. Repeat this 3 times, after the third time on for 10 mins, try and start. hope that helps

Re: 00 grand am won't start
my bad ! I must hav misread your first post
![]() Do you hear the fuel pump in the rear gastank when you turn on the key ? If not check the fuses and relays in the fusebox under the hood, #18 is a mini relay and #48mini fuse double check those #'s they are listed in the lid of all fuseboxes. If those are good its your fuel pump , a badly cloged fuel filter could stop the flow if the Fuel pump is working. Hope that helps!

Re: 00 grand am won't start
You can rent a fuel pressure gauge that hooks to the passenger side of the back fuel rail.
Should be 41-47 psi with the key on and engine off. The fuel filter could be a big possibility. It is located above teh rear axle. Small round canister about 4" long. One end screws on and the other has a plastic clip holding it in. Might need a tool to remove that end. Sometimes plyers work .

Re: 00 grand am won't start
Tonight, my daughter's 2000 Grand Am also decided to die. Motor turns over, spark on all plugs, but no fuel. Fires up right away with some starting fluid into the air intake. Swapped out the fuel pump and a/c relays-still no luck.
Crawled under the car with ignition on but can't detect any vibration at the fuel pump. Seems like this may be the culprit. Any way I can check the fuel pump before disassembly? Thank you in advance! |
