starting problems

My 89 Century 3.3L is having a starting problem. It's not getting any spark. The comination sensor, ignition module, and ecm have been changed about a month ago and now it won't start. It has fuel pressure to if you are wondering. ???

Re: starting problems

With the engine cranking, is there an injector pulse?

I can't tell how you checked the fuel pressure, if you just pressed the schrader valve, that can be misleading, might be only the initial prime.

The CEL does come on when you turn the key on? Are there any codes?

I guess you have B+ going to the ignition module?

Some of these vehicles have a purple wire with a white tracer, that carries the rpm signal from the ignition module to the computer, with the vehicle cranking, the computer has to see a signal on that wire, or the vehicle won't start. Are you getting an rpm signal when you crank it?

Re: starting problems

ok. I am getting fuel pressure through a fuel pressure gauge which is at between 35 and 40 psi. I am also getting a rpm singal.

When I last took it aout to drive it. It was missing really bad and then it just stalled. I couldn't get it back started. It's not getting any spark. Don't know what the problem is.

Re: starting problems

Did you check fuel pressure with the engine cranking?

Can you communicate with the computer, are there any trouble codes?

With the engine cranking, do the injectors pulse?

You mentioned the parts that were changed, were they new?

Re: starting problems

Yes I did check fuel pressure with it cranking and with just key on. It's all good.

I can communicate with the ecm. The only trouble code I get is the vss circuit is low.

I am also getting injector pulse.

I did notice when I pulled the crank pulley off yesterday that little metal shavings were on the vanes in the middle. Do you think the combination sensoe could have gone faulty again.

My info shows there is a special tool that is used to position the crank sensor, I'm not sure how critical that is?

According to my info, talking about the four wire connector at the crank sensor, Terminal A--light blue wire with a white tracer, terminal B--dark blue wire with white tracer, with the engine cranking, there should be a dc pulse on both wires?

Terminal C--gray wire with a red tracer, that is ground.

Terminal D--white wire with a black tracer, that is ref voltage.

Have you tried to check the primary circuits under the coil pack? I'm not sure which type coil pack you have? One type all plug wires are on the same side, on the other, there are three plug wires on each side.

I was just double-checking my info, it says on the 3.3, that special tool has to be used to align the crank sensor with the vibration damper.
