98 Windstar GL 3.8 won't run

I have a 98 Windstar that will not run.
I let someone borrow it and they went to start it the next day and it wouldn't start. So I tried jumping it, thinking battery was dead. No luck. I bought a new battery, still nothing. I then replaced the starter since there wasn't even a click coming out of it. That did need to be rebuilt, wires were corroded apart. So after this still no running, no communication with shop computer, ordered new computer, still nothing. Anyone have any ideas besides the junk heap??? It will start but not run.
Thanks

Re: 98 Windstar GL 3.8 won't run

I don't know what to suggest.
You say that it now starts but does not stay running?
I would say to narrow down whether it is an ignition problem, or a fuel problem.
To see if it is a fuel problem......you can connect a fuel pressure gauge to the front, middle of the fuel rail.
If the fuel pressure comes up, then drops down, then it is a fuel delivery problem......and the first (easiest and cheapest) thing to check would be the fuel filter. After that, the fuel pump.....or fuel pump relay, or fuel pump wiring.

Does it help to have the accelerator pushed down up to 1/4 of the way?......if so.....the IAC (Idle Air Control) might be stuck closed.

If ignition, is the power staying to the system when you go from "start" to "run".

Re: 98 Windstar GL 3.8 won't run

Thanks for the info,
I had it towed to have someone else deal with it.
I will pass on the info. Everyone seems to think it is an electrical problem since it will not communicate with the shop computers.

Well it is fixed, seems one of the block fuses under the hood got moved to another spot!! This was an expensive over site.
