AC question
I have an 89 Lesabre with only 15K on the odometer. It has been pampered its whole life. Anyway, the AC just quit last time I had it out. The compressor does not engage. Is there a fuse or switch on these systems? I bought the car in 2004, and the previous owner gave me all the papers, and the AC was charged in the spring of 2004, about 600 miles ago. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: AC question
It is not uncommon for an older system to need a shot of refrigerant every year or two. In fact, if you get two years, you are doing well. As the system ages, the seals will develop small leaks. If it is ½ lb low, the compressor will not engage due to low pressure. You might want to call several shops that specialize in AC systems and ask if they can charge R-12 systems. Get a price per pound from each one, as well as other miscellaneous charges. It might be a good idea to take it to a dealer for this service.

Re: AC question
Thanks for the info. I had it at the dealer for its annual state inspection in June, but this just developed. SInce I don't drive it in winter, I won't need the defrost, so I just may wait until next year. Thanks also for the welcome!
