Metro 1.0L: What's the letter after G10 mean?
I'm looking for a JDM engine and I'm wondering what the letter after G10 means. Some say "G10L engine" and I think there are some other letters out there also. What is the difference?
My car is a '92 XFi. Someone said that the XFi has only two piston rings instead of three. Is that true? I also heard that timing is different. What exactly is different? Spark timing? Valve timing? What's the letter code for a '92 XFi? Does it really matter what I get, as long as I get a G10? Thanks.

Read this link:
http://www.teamswift.net/viewtopic.p...ight=g10l+g10a You will want the g10L. I did my 91 with the jdm g10: 2 years ago and plan to do my 93 sometime soon. Just trying to pic a supplier, the old one I used is no longer there. |

Well, yes, your XFi engine is quite different on the inside than any other G10 motor. You will have to take the manifolds from your current engine and put them on the JDM engine. Your car will work ok with the XFi computer, but may run lean/rich, or it might not. I'd keep an eye on it. The XFi's big gas savings is in the cam it uses, the 2 ring pistons, and the weight reduction done on the inside. The ECU program should work ok with the JDM engine, but you'll notice a few more hp
