can you feel sohc vtec?
i have a 95 civic ex 1.6 sohc vtec but i can't hear or feel it. is this how it is with all sohc vtec cars? i have a cold air and headers and still can't feel it. the vtec plug is in and it doesn't seem like anything is wrong with the plug. what performance part should i get to make the vtec kick in harder?

Not to be a smart ass (really) take it over 4000rpm's and try wearin' thinner soled shoes?
What do you mean "can't feel it" like no boost? er, don't notice a difference?

eh?
I dunno. Wait for one of the guys/girls on here who really knows what they're doing, they'll be a lot more help than me. But if you have some interior wiring questions...lemme know.

You cant feel it, not possible. I have driven a 94 EX and it was porky, and then I drove a 94 GS-R and you can FEEL that shit. Probably cause the GS-R redline is higher, and its DOHC

you can feel vtec in a gsr powered car. its VERY distinct. very loud and very easy to identify.
sohc vtec is also noticable. you don't feel as much of a kick, but you definatly can hear it. most of the time it depends on the exhaust system. if its straight through its easier to hear. a friend of mine has a tanable racing medallion with straight piping and no cat. vtec is fucking deafaning.

so i should get an exhaust to be able to hear it? im thinking about getting either a skunk2 exhaust or the tanabe super racing medallion. anyone know which makes more power and sounds better? on the skunk2 site it shows a dyno of the exhaust making 10hp on the 2001 civic, so im leaning towards skunk2.

for starters on a low-powered car you wont hear or feel vtec kick in. All it does is use a special camshaft design to alter the timing at different RPM ranges. Now maybe you could hear it on a more powerful car as the transition RIGHT before the camshaft lobes are altered (right before vtec "kicks in") the initial timing may be drawn out to a high rpm and the sudden adjustment in timing that high rpms benefit from may jump from the bad timing right to the good timing so you may feel an immediate jump but only on higher power vehicles and we're assuming the initial timing is drawn out too long. and no exhaust will add 10hp unless again you have a powerful engine. the gains were probably with i/h/e and are we talking a whole exaust system or just the muffler?

yes, you can hear and feel sohc vtec. My friend cracked his air box on his stock 5th gen. civic and that sucker was loud when he hit vtec.
And no, you can not get an exhaust system that will add 10HP unless you have mods up your ass on your car. For your civic with i/h it will add 2-3 if you're lucky.

i have a chipped ecu for my d16, you can definetly feel it kick in. it lowered my vtec from 4800 rpm to 4200 i do believe. but "redlineing the shit out of it" isnt going to help you 4800 rpm comes and goes real fast if your really gettin on it, try reving to a lil past 5000 rpm at a steady rate in 2nd gear you should be able to feel it......

I have a SOHC and to tell the truth I can't really tell at all. I can feel it but theres not much noise. I know when it comes on because I put in a vtec indicator, (you should do this). I have an AEM CAI with a TANABE G-Power Medalion(SRM) and I still cant really hear that much, but I feel the performance.
