Rear View Mirror Switch

There was a guy a couple of posts ago about an '06 that someone replied to him that you could just switch out the base mirror that has the on/off air bag warning and put in one of the temp compass mirror. Now will the same thing work on an '03 silverado or will I have to get some sensors put in for it. And if I can just switch them out could I get a mirror at a salvage yard or where could I get one? I would appreciate any help cause I have always wanted one of those mirrors but i thought it would be too much trouble to do and if i can just switch them out it would be great

Re: Rear View Mirror Switch

You will need the sensors too. I did the same thing and the compass does work but the temp. displays 0C.

Re: Rear View Mirror Switch

Ya thats true it would look better than the original. I'm trying to get all the stuff to make my truck look like one of the high end trucks because it is just a base model. I might just end up getting one anyways. Can yo get one at a scrap yard you think?

Wouldn't it have been cheaper just to buy a better truck? I like your wheels, though; I want a set

Re: Rear View Mirror Switch

Well when i got the truck in 2003 when they first came out the v8 cost about $30,000 plus tax, etc. Mine came out to $20,000. I've spent about $2,500 to make it into a v8. The only way you will know it was a base model is because of the seats and carpet, but i plan on changing those too. But other then that its all the same.

I did this a while ago on my '01. The wiring harness was tucked into the headliner. I don't have OnStar and there are a few different models of mirrors with different plugs. See if you have a plug up in the headliner and then just get the mirror thats right for that plug. You will need to get a temp sensor. They can be found cheap on ebay. The whole install took me about 40 minutes and cost me less than $75. I got lucky on ebay for a brand new mirror. My wife thought I was crazy but now she wants one for her car.

Re: Rear View Mirror Switch

Ya i've done most of it to. I have the wheels p/l keyless entry. I dont have power windows yet. or cruise control. My next project is too put a V-8 in it. I should be getting a raide pretty good raise pretty soon so I am going to try to put a 6.0 in it. Then it will be a bad truck. My fiancee wont be happy about it but she said i could

Great man, and go with the 6.0 cause now i regret getting a 5.3 instead of the 6.0. Its a great feeling seeing the before and after of the trucks and how much they have changed, all the time and money spent on them. My gf gets mad at me all them time cause i spend my money on my truck, rather then other important stuff! But i don't care, to me its all worth it haha

Re: Rear View Mirror Switch

You regretted putting the 5.3 in it? the only problem is i have to find a way to get the money saved up. I think I should be able to in about 6 or 7 months hopefully. And that sounds just like my fiancee. But oh well a boy has to play with his toys.

Hi,
I just change my '07 (03-07 are the same, except the all new '07) to auto dim rear view mirror w/compass work, but not temp! I know I need the sensor, but where and how do I install them?
On my connection in the mirrow, there are 16 pins, but only 4 wires connected (other w/on star get 12 wires connect).
How do I connect the temp sensor from outside to the rear view mirror connection? let say if I found the temp sensor.

Thank you all!
I have found the temp sensor at a junk yeard for FREE, and install it in my 2007 Silverado (03-07 are the same, not new '07).
It's pin 5 (positive) & 6 (negative) in the plug.
It works great.
