Re: Awd!!

The Audi A4 and A6 both have very good AWD systems (called Quattro), both have amazing traction on dry, wet, and snowy roads. So if you can afford it, go with Audi. If you want something a bit cheaper, Subaru WRX and Imprezas are good too.

Re: Awd!!

Suggest you also check out Jaguar X-Type. Has AWD with 229HP on tap. Performance and handling are excellent - easily comparable to current BMW 325IX automatic. Only downside - manual tranny not avaialable in US this model year. Reliability is excellent for an European car, and, close to that of Lexus according to JD Powers. Have found the X to be a superb foul weather performer in the mountains where I live.

Re: Awd!!

I heard that BMW AWD systems (X-drive) isn't really that good. It works in the snow, but performs horribly on dry pavement, comprimising handling & acelleration.

Re: Awd!!

As far as I'm concerned if a car isn't reliable it's not worth getting. Now European cars are great drivers cars don't get me wrong but they are unreliable and expensive to fix.

It really depends on how much you want to spend. If you have more to spend I'd look at the Infiniti G35 awd, if you don't I'd look into some Subaru’s and maybe the Toyota Matrix awd.

Re: Awd!!

Having experienced Nissan's crappy reliability first hand, I'd stay away from Nissan/Infiniti unless you buy an extended warranty.

Re: Awd!!

I drive an 04 325xi with Goodyear summer tires and it has incredible traction on any roads wet or dry. I use Blizzaks on all four corners in the winter in Northern MI and never missed a day of work.

I could care less about Nissan. My oldest son bought a new Altima several years age - after the tranny failed 3 times he unloaded it. My Daughter in law bought a Sentra - after a $1000 distributor replacement and another $1500 electrical system problem just out of warranty, she and my middle son swapped it for a domestic. Two salesmen in my company bought Altimas for business use - both were very unhappy with the car's reliability. My new son-in-law talked his mother into buying a Maxima several years ago, but, now only buys Toyotas and Hondas. Suggest you check JD Powers to see how Infinity has fared of late before investing $30K in one, and, before making asinine comments.

i find that to be pretty strange. i know of one person who has has an altima for about 4 years without a single problem. i know one sentra owner who is ignorant enough to never do oil changes, yet his car never had any major problems. my silvia runs like a champ and takes all the abuse i give it. oh well.

I know. I had 1 friend who drove one of the old boxy Maximas almost 200K before it expired. However, other than him, nobody I know has gotten good service out of Nissan. You obviously have and that's great. Nothing worse than a car that's out of warranty that averages a couple hundred bucks in repairs a month.
