Question factory alarm doesn't work

The factory alarm for the car doesn't work. When opening doors from the inside, when the alarm is supposed to be armed, nothing happens. The remote with lock, unlock, panic works fine. Please help.

Re: factory alarm doesn't work

Do your interior lights come on when the door is opened? Maybe you have a faulty door pin switch. Try releasing and opening the hood to see if that sets the alarm off.

Also, how soon after arming the system are you opening the door? I'm not sure if Ford (CodeAlarm?) incorporates an entry/exit delay on the system or not, and if so, how long the delay is.

The interior lights do come on when the door is opened. I haven't tried opening the hood. I will try that. I have waited a minute or two, but I will wait longer to see if that changes anything.

Re: factory alarm doesn't work

Entry and exit delay is usually on the order of 20-45 seconds. If you've waited at least that long, you've probably waited long enough.

Are you sure you are actually enabling the alarm system? Closing the door alone won't do it (even though the "theft" indicator may flash). You need to have the key out of the ignition and the doors locked.

I assume you tried rolling the window down, close the door, lock it, then open the door from inside using the inside door handle.

Re: factory alarm doesn't work

From the service manual for a 2000 Mountaineer:
The door open warning lamp switch (14018) communicates to the remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module through the generic electronic module (GEM). This input to the RAP will cause the anti-theft alarm to be sounded if the anti-theft alarm was armed.

The door disarm switches are attached to the LH, RH, and liftgate door lock cylinders. The door disarm switch must be triggered before the mechanical lock unlocks. This is to prevent the anti-theft alarm from activating when it should have been disarmed.

The RAP module controls the anti-theft system and the keyless entry system. The RAP module communicates with the GEM to request that the interior lights be turned ON/OFF with use of the keyless entry remote transmitter (15K601), and the GEM communicates to the RAP to inform when the door is opened. For module communication information, refer to «Section 418-00».

For additional information on the keyless entry remote transmitter, refer to «Section 501-14B».

The perimeter alarm uses the door open warning lamp switch and hood switch. The RAP module also uses the autolock/relock feature to prevent theft of the vehicle. For additional information on the autolock/relock system, refer to «Section 501-14B».

The anti-theft indicator is found on the instrument panel to the right of the RH turn signal indicator. The THEFT indicator is shared by the RAP and PATS modules. The THEFT indicator is illuminated during prearming by the RAP module position. The passive anti-theft system will flash the THEFT indicator with the key off.
----------------------------

No mention of an exit delay, but the GEM module will know when the last door is closed, and the key cylinder disarm switches and RAP module will know when the correct user unlocks the doors, so it probably doesn't need entry or exit delay.

Re: factory alarm doesn't work

I posted too soon:
--------------
1 Open the driver door window.

2 Perform the arming sequence with the keyless entry remote transmitter by pressing the lock button on the keyless entry remote.

3 Wait at least 30 seconds after all doors are closed and locked. Reach through the window and open the door to trigger the armed system.

l Does the RAP system trigger?
