spark plug hell 88 cutlass ciera

So I went to replace my spark plugs...all seemed like fun and joy until I realized I CAN'T REMOVE THE ****ING PLUG

Ok . So, I looked in my service manual. Basically it said "o lololol we have an insulator that goes half way down the plug, but we'll be nice enough not to tell you how to remove it LOL"

...

Basically...I don't know how to explain what it is. It's a rubber part (at least it felt like it) that had two sides to hold a pair of spark plugs. Anyways it covers the nut part of the spark plug, so I don't know how the hell to even remove the spark plug with this thing in the way!

Help?

Ok, you have the wire off the plug, right? What engine do we have here?

Did the bottom of the wire break off and is till on the plug insulator, or the plug socket rubber keeper is stuck on the plug, try and get it off the plug with a long set of needle nose pliers.

Yes the wire is completely off (the boot and all), exposing the bottom of teh plug. Where the nut should be on the spark plug to twist it off, there is a some sort of rubber insulator there, and it covers two spark plugs (3 sets of these exist). I assume that's what you're asking me to pull off?

I actually had tried that, and it would not budge. I was afraid I'd break something so I stopped.

I had grasped both sides with my fingers and tried to pull it off, but no luck. I can try again though with a real tool >_>. I'll let you know if I got it or not.

Re: spark plug hell 88 cutlass ciera

Haven't been able to get to it yet, it started raining, so I have to wait for tomorrow. Are you sure that piece will just pull right off? It's the one that kind looks like the barrel of a double barrel shotgun, but it's rubber-like and holds two spark plugs and covers about half the bottom of the spark plug. I just don't want to have my hopes crushed tomorrow @_@

It simply will not come off. And unless I'm an idiot, it looks like these things are actually part of a bigger piece -.-

I don't know wtf to do now.

Re: spark plug hell 88 cutlass ciera

Very blurry, but this looks like the wires on the coil pack, not the plugs?

They are the plugs, I don't see how they can't be...When you remove the wire it exposes the base of the shiny base of the plug. Those wires are numbered 1-6 and I'm certain those are the plugs there.

Here's the picture ran through a sharpness filter:

Hopefully that'll help out

Those images can't be the plugs. Spark plugs are located on the front and rear banks of the motor. Three in the front and three in the rear with about 6 inches between them. You should be able to see the wires on the front of the motor near the oil dipstick in the front.
maxwedge is correct you are looking at the coil packs where all the plug wires originate. They are also located on the lower front of the motor below the spark plugs.

Re: spark plug hell 88 cutlass ciera

How? Those are the wire boots, and there's 6 of those things in the front, they look like the plugs when the boot is off. Right under the dipstick....what am I missing here? I did not see anything else that could look like spark plugs.

I'm going outside with my flashlight now just to be sure >_>

Re: spark plug hell 88 cutlass ciera

Ok, I apologize. This was my first time >________>

I was actually afraid those were it...it's so much harder to get to the plugs than the coil pack apparently

Thanks for pointing out my stupidity , and the help
