Need help port polish??

Hey guys, I've got a 91 GSX. I've had a EVOIII16G with supporting mods to run 20 psi for a while and wanted to get more performance. I was recommended to port and polish the intake and exhaust. We found out they used abrasive material to do it like gritty sand. So I got with my friend that tunes Hondas and we decided to try it ourselves. We got a bag of sandblasting sand and hooked up into the intake and started the car. We had to hold the gas so it would run. He wanted to let the engine suck in the sand through the intake so it would port it out and then push it out the ehxaust so it would port the exhaust manifold.
I was worried that it might cause problems but he figured it'd be OK as long as we didn't make boost and it get sucked in the turbo. After running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way through a 25 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. We tried to start it again and it was really hard. Once started it couldn't idle and kept making weird noises. We took it out and drove it and it started to make scraping and knocking noises.
Help! Can anyone tell me what to do! My buddy only does Hondas so he doesn't know much about DSM.

I do not post very often but this is a must. What the hell were you thinking? I can't believe I was reading that and you were serious. Good Luck though with the new motor that you'll need.

Re: Need help port polish??

wow yeah..

Don't let your friend touch a car ever again. Definately not how you do it. Good luck with the engine. I'd go and get another (we are not kidding when we say that...). I couldn't believe you were serious the entire time I was reading that.....

Not to knock you, maybe you don't know much about cars.... but you should have gone with your gut feeling that that wasn't how you would do that..

I guarantee you however you are going to get ripped a new one, for what is quite possibly the craziest thing I've heard all year..

But before you tell your friend. Tell him we told you how to fix it then go "port and polish his intake and exhaust". Btw where did all the sand go? That is a shitload of sand to pour through...

Normally you would take the parts off.... Port them with some cutting or grinding tool. I'd bead blast them next, then polish the hell out of them.. Then clean then reinstall on the car.

Uh...maybe we need to create a new sub-forum: "Entertainment".

Wow. Holy hell. This is insane.

Reminds me of the time some guy with an SRT-4 posted about changing his oil by letting it drain and having the motor running...

Re: Need help port polish??

Lets clear a few things up.

1. Your friend is a moron and your not to bright for letting him do it.

2. Also you do not have a motor, why everyone always says motor i have no clue. Its called a engine. The difference is.

A motor (or, more formally, an electric motor) is a device which converts
electrical energy into mechanical energy. They come in all variety of size
and type. It is rather easy to build a simple one, and I am sure that any
good science store would have kits to do that, or books to guide you
through a home project.
An engine (or, more formally, a heat engine) is a device that converts
chemical energy or heat energy into mechanical energy. The three main
types are the internal combustion piston engine (like the engine in your
automobile, gas turbine engines (like the powerplants used in jet
aircraft), and steam engines. There are kits available for steam engines
(check out Edmund Scientific), and there are plastic models to display the
components of automotive engines. again found in most good science
stores).

Not to be a smartass, but the second sentence validates it somewhat.

Re: Need help port polish??

Damn Shpyder did a wicked Burn.

Could this thread get locked? I mean we can rip on this guy all day, and it's going to happen, so lets just skip this massive flamming and move on.

BUT, since it's not...

WHAT THE FUCK!! This is by far the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I had to read it twice to make sure I wasn't misreading it. Why? Just... why? Why would you do that? Did you honestly think that that would work? Running sand into the engine/motor? What the crap??!!?? You shouldn't come near anything with moving parts without supervision because apparently the two of you together make a huge dumbass. Wow... just wow.

Re: Need help port polish??

Defining a motor isn't really the issue, though Webster does a very good job at it.

Anyways, I've gotta jump in on this... The air that's introduced into the cylinder's might not even be travelling fast enough to blast/port/gouge anything anyways, but you can bet once it accumulates in the cylinder then it probably did a crazy bore job from the pressure of the combustion. I really hope this is just a joke.

Re: Need help port polish??

how come honda owners always have the best cheap mods? cut springs, 15hp "resistor chip" mods, and now the infamous 15 minute port-and-polish-while-still-installed-and-running job. what will they think of next?

Reduce weight by running on 3 wheels?

Re: Need help port polish??

Bahahaha..... holy shit.

I wanna see pictures, and why isn't this on film!? It sounds too dumb to be true... but who knows these days. Cars come with air filters for a reason..

Hmm... my advice: Stick to a pedal bike.. and stay away from my car.
