New Car

I just bought a 1989 Honda Civic LX sedan. I bought it for a daily driver for school. I want to make it faster, by adding a turbo. But I don't know what engine to swap in. Which engine is the easiest to swap in. Im going to use a t3 or t25 turbo. And I would like to keep it a cheap project.

Re: New Car

Also can I turbo my carburated engine? Will the transmission handle the extra power? Will CRX suspension work on my car? I know I may be anoying you, but I am a Mitsu man if you can't tell by my name. Im just getting into Hondas and I need to learn as much as I can.

Re: New Car

Firstly, your engine is not carbed, its has a dual-injector intake system (turboing your stock engine is a big waste of time). Your transmission (dx tranny) can handle a lot as Honda D or B series trannies can handle a lot of power, but having it handle turbo is also a big waste of time. CRX's use the exact same suspension as your LX except for 88's which have different rear suspension (trailing arms and LCA's) so swapping is again, another big waste of time. If you really love your lx and wanna make it quick, do a swap.

Re: New Car

how is turboing a sohc a waste of time? please tell me. when you can do it correctly, not some shitty junkyard swap, for the same price as doing a motor swap, and be running much faster.

anyway unless you are from the uk you're engine isn't carbed. alot of people seem to think it looks like a carb, but its really Throttle Body Injection, which is absolute garbage of an injection system. Its also known as the "Spray and pray" system. You'll definetly want to convert to mpfi.

As for the trans, I've seen them handle up to like 300+hp, for how long? I dunno.

Re: New Car

I thik he meant its a waste of time to boost the d15b2, if you were to swap to MPFI and use a d16 youd be much happier with the results.

Re: New Car

Im not really looking for a speed monster. ( I have my 3000gt vr4 for that ) I just want a little bit more pep, for my daily driver. My friend gave me a manifold, t3 turbo, intercooler, and injectors, so I was just going to put it on my car. Also can I put dsm injectors on my tbi.

You think its worth it to run a turbo on a dpfi d15b2 when he hasnt built it, convert it to mpfi, or done a mini-me??
Where the hell in my thread do i meantion its pointless to turbo a sohc? I was talking about his dual point, shit d15b. Dude relax, i never in my post generalized to only SOHCs. Turbo single cams can be monsters, if built and done correctly...just not this guys stock B2.

Re: New Car

yeah i was gonna say he COULD do it, if he wanted to blow the motor the same day lol the d15b2 is a piece of junk, no use makin it jump a little, might as well save a few bucks for a cheap d16 cuz it would handle the boost a little better

Re: New Car

Actually, the weak link is the connecting rods if I remember correctly. Do an mpfi swap, rebuild with forged rods and freshen up, add turbo kit and you'll have a pretty sweet 1.5L that can take on the big boys.

The differnces in a d15 and d16 are very minimal, what one can hold the other can too.

exactly.

All you fucking noobies are really annoying handing out wrong information. why don't you acutally go research and find out what is the truth.

D series can handle 8-10 psi with a decent tune.

Epic wsa running 11.8's on a stock internal z6 with arp head studs to keep the head from lifting, and that was on 17psi with 307whp and made a ton of passes on it with no problems. And since then they have turned the boost up and put down 441whp, still on stock internals. They are waiting for it to blow to see how far they can push a stock D.

Re: New Car

Jeez.. well I dont know anything about D

But he did want to know what swap would be good to turbo??
I figure you put in a B18 or H22 (I think like $1500-2500 w/ tranny) you would be happy with the turbo setup on those engines. I dont know if it costs LESS than modifying your D engine, I'm thinking modifying a D wouldn't be expensive (from all the tense posting) but intially I had thought it wouldn't be worth it to make the D-series fast because in order to do it good (I believe you can) and produce good power it would be quite expensive?

So I guess I'll say that, and throw out the D-series cost question out to the experts.
