hood question

ok this may be a stupid question...

but im in the market for a new hood.
i was thinking about going with a carbon fiber one. the only problem i have tho, is that in all the pictures of carbon fiber hoods it does not show the windsheild washer nozzles. is there a way i can still put the washer nozzles on thehood in the stock location.. also i was wondering if any one new where i could find a decent looking hood for my Z ..

i have the two seater by the way

Re: hood question

if you're going for weight saving stick with the stock hood as it's lighter than most carbon fibre hoods out there... but to answer your question, yes you could probably just drill holes in the hood where you want the washer nozzles and mount them into the holes you just drilled...

i think escort carry's some sweet designes... i say you talk to jason(k3) about getting one of his designs into production...

Re: hood question

ok thanks for your help!!

is there any place i can find a stock hood with vents? the hood i have now is stock and i cut out three vents on the bottom right above the nose panel..

but now the hood is like warped or something and it does not close properly any more.. ive tried adjusting it to no avail of fixing it..

i guess i just want the lightest hood possible, but i would also like it to be vented...

carbon fiber just seemed like the easiest route to go since there will be no painting involved..

Re: hood question

you can always just take your stock hood and put universal style vents on it and cut a hole in the hood where the vents are... you'll want to make sure that you like them where they are and that they actually ventalate properly and don't affect the airflow through the engine bay negatively (ie having the opening of the vents facing forward instead of backwards)

Re: hood question

they make CF hoods that have vents in them. they are usualy quite ugly but i guess they could be very functional if you lived in an area with lots of heat.

look in classified sections for used stock hoods.

alot of people dont cut the holes for the windshield wipers because if the whole appearance thing going on. kinda like shaving antennas and windshield wipers.

escort makes a very nice hood but it is pricey and hard to find. the only thing i dont like about it is the front vent but the rear vents look sweet.

Re: hood question

ESCORT Racing has the best looking and one of the lightest hoods in the market. These hoods of course are not made with "style" in mind but with function rather (I know the scop in the front is ugly...). That's the hood I'm going with. It is hard to get but if you got connections like me...

If all you care about is looks any crappy CF hood from VIS will do... they have little function and end up weighing more than the stock aluminum hood. Keep in mind when you have a "vented" hood it will be open to weather so I would keep a spare stock hood around if I were you.

Re: hood question

I had hail damage to my hood when I bought my 91 NA 2+2. I replaced it with an aftermarket for about $160. Can't complain about the aftermarket hood except it is heavy.
