Hey guys I was wondering if anyone had any experience with different
exhaust set ups on gtp's?
I was thinking about going with the ported exhaust manifolds from zz performance and getting a bigger downpipe with removable high flow cat from ebay. I would have the cat on for driving around town and then simply remove it when going to the strip. Will this work well? What about backpressure? here is the link to ebay if you dont know what im talking about
i already have a 3.4 inch pulley an intake and a dhp pcm
new at this stuff so any informationwill help

Which ported exhaust manifold? The Power Logs? I do not see any significant performance gain from them to justify the time, effort and money. They may work fine on L36s. The best exhaust mod for a GTP is headers.

The removable hi-flow CAT sounds like a good idea but personally I do not believe the 1/4 mile ET will significantly improve by removing the CAT. I didn't notice any. Some exhaust back pressure is needed.

I agree with headers being the best but the power logs are about half the price. im looking to spend about $700-$850. with headers and a down pipe im looking at about $1000 pretty easy

With headers you will not have to worry about the downpipe. The headers have a 3" collector and a woven flex joint which will come out to the input of the CAT convertor. You can get ceramic coated headers for alot less than $800. All I have after my SLP headers is a Magnaflow 2.5 hi-flow CAT with 2.5 inch exhaust plumbing.

Do you still have the u-bend after the CAT?

yeah the whole exhaust is stock right now. u-bend delete isn't a very big deal though only like $70. If i got the headers and the cutout before the cat how would the backpressure respond? im looking for a street to strip conversion in like 2 minutes or less. any good sites to get those headers on? my friend had some pacesetters and the paint chipped and looked horrible after less than a month. the coating your talking about isnt the same thing is it?

Yeah, I heard Pacesetters had problems. I went with the best compromise between cost, quality and performance. The SLPs are sterling silver aluminum ceramic coated. Same SLP headers I have are found here.

With the cutout it will work and probably the best way to go from street to strip. As far as backpressure I really don't know. But it will run fine with an exhaust cutout. However, you will need an 02 simulator for the rear 02 sensor after the CAT since it will trip an odb-ii DTC error code and SES light.

Those headers look sweet and just in my price range. thanks a lot man. as far as the down pipe goes is it possible to weld or clamp it to the stock cat? if it does then i wont need the sensor right? since its after the cat. This will also allow me to not choose one of those two pipe options on the web site saving me money right? as long as my cutout is before the cat i still get my street/ strip i was looking for

The cutout should be placed before the CAT. The best thing to do after you get it all installed if doing it DIY is to get it to a mom & pop muffer shop to finish the job the way you want it. I'm quite sure even with the cutout (when in cutout mode) you will need the 02 simulator. They don't cost that much. A P0420 DTC will set because the rear 02 sensor via the PCM module will see a big deviation from the front 02 sensor thinking the CAT has an efficiency problem. Good luck.

ok sounds good. but as far as the ordering goes do i still need to choose one of the the two options with the high flow cat or the race pipe?
i wouldn't think that i would have to since ill be using the stock cat. if i dont would the downpipe that they send me go to the stock cat? or is this something i should ask them?

If you are referring to the $289 Hogan setup I don't think so. Especially if you decide to go with the headers. The configuration will be different because of the cutout and where the header collector/flex joint will terminate. For a good hi-flow CAT checkout the Magnaflow brand. Less than $60 with shipping.
