Neon lights.

I am looking to put neon lights under my car.

What are Florida's law with this? I have asked around and have received different opinions. Some say you can put any color as long as it isnt blue or red since those are the police's colors and some say that the only color you can put legally is white, every other is illegal. Which one is it?

Also, if any of you have this lights, where did you get them? I would like something with a remote control or something.

Thanks.

Re: Neon lights.

Because since I dont have the money it takes to prepare the car mechanically (exhaust, intake, headers etc) I just decided to make it look good. I bought the steering wheel cover, seat cover, carpets, all red and now want neon lights. At least make it look good since I cant afford to do other stuff.

You know, part time job, making $6.50, still in high school with car payments etc. I guess all of you have gone through this

Been there. And I understand it.

Neons are a waste. They don't make the car look good. At least in my opinion.
Here is my car. Looks pretty damn good to me.

Other than the wheels, all the 'look good' mods are cheap and easy. These cars don't need anything other than some good polish and wax to look good.

Re: Neon lights.

agreed a firebird with neons = imo but if you still want them ebay has them for cheap and they come with the remote...but trust me people will laugh at you i also think that if your a owner of a firbird you dont need any cosmetic upgrades.

Re: Neon lights.

I know everytime I see a Firebird or a Camaro with neons... it makes me want to vomit. Its just something I would expect to see on a Civic. They dont clash very well on any domestic IMO.. and I really just dont see the point in them. If you wan't to make your car stand out more at night, get some reflective decals (the PONTIAC inserts, door emblem overlays, etc). Now that's something you dont see alot and looks good giving that the colors clash well.

I can understand where you're coming from working a job at $6.50.. I've been doing it for years. My advice, don't waste your money on the stupid stuff. Save it up and put it to good use, that's what I've done and that's what I would strongly recommend. Just check out my cardomain (link in sig), all the stuff I've done has been paid for by minimum wage paying jobs. May not be impressive to most who have well paying jobs, but I think I've done well for myself.

Re: Neon lights.

I see where you guys are coming from

My car is stock. The only "performance" stuff I have on it is a K&N air filter and thats it. I bought my car used and the last owner took very good care of it. I agree that when washed, it looks pretty good.

However, when I see a car with neon lights, in my opinion they look nice. I dont have the "ricer" in me and I wont be cruising with them lights on etc. Just when parking or something.

Also, both of your cars look completely awesome.

Re: Neon lights.

Curtis, you're a damn showoff.
As far as neons, they scream...RICE...don't do it. Save up a little more for your first bolt-on. It will all be worth it. A little at a time. That's how I am doing it. Now I'm just debating whether or not to get a new catback because my car got quieter with the LT's.

Re: Neon lights.

Dude neon lights are lamecore. Get some performance stuff. It doesn't matter how the car looks as long as it has a nice paint job and is taken care of. All that matters is whats on the inside. You don't need to look cool as long as you got skill.

Re: Neon lights.

Keep it looking stock and make it go fast. Sleepers are always hot in my book. Nothing like a sleeper putting an 11 sec smackdown on someone.

Re: Neon lights.

To answer your question instead of bashing the neons, Florida allows them as far as I remember but you just can't have red or blue. You could put red or blue on there, but then you couldnt drive with them on...show only at that point. That is unless they changed the law on neons in the last 3 years...

I dont see why everyone hates neons so much. Some can look good with the car and accent it well...others are lame. As is the case with so much on a car. I dont think putting a ram air hood on your 3rd gen bird is a good mod either...yet people do it and think it looks great. So do whatever you want to do...its your car.

Re: Neon lights.

Thats no excuse about the part time job

I am 18 and when i was in high school a few months back i had a $7 an hour part time job and i can still afford mods. I just put a SLP CAI, Whisper lid and K&N air filter. And i pay $275 a month for my car as a car payment. Neons are such ricey bullshit..You might as well throw on a windshield banner while your at it. Please..dont do neons I hate when people make their car look fast when it isnt. Performance > Appearance

Re: Neon lights.

Under that logic, he shouldnt even drive a firebird then. He should get a different car altogether that performs better and handles better than his firebird since appearance doesn't matter. Im not advocating neons here, but they aren't as "rice" (which what does that even mean) as everyone likes to think. There is a tactful way to do it. Sometimes neons can highlight a car. Id rather have neons than some of the garbage exhaust that people put on these cars that sound like crap rather than a nice mellow yet aggressive under acceleration system...but hey, its what they want.

I just dont think this thread should turn into a "rice" neon flaming thread when the guy just asked a simple question about laws regarding a mod he wants to do to his car. If he asked, "What do you all think about neons", then fine. But he didnt.
