overdrive question

I've got a 98 zx auto (i know). Car drove fine stopped to drop off my kids when I started car back and pulled out tranny wouldn't go into overdrive. Car had service engine light. Pulled battery cable for about an hour, cleared ligh but tranny is still in limp mode 1 and 3 only. Question is; is there anyway to test sensors? Also will having Advance Auto etc... pull codes show any tranny codes or just engine/emissions code?

if the tranny is throwing a code(why the light came on) it will read it, but it sounds like the tranny it taking a pooper

Yeah, the automatic transmissions in our cars are made of glass. You'll probably be investing in a new one very soon.

As for Advanced Auto checking your codes, I would think they would be able to check any of them, not just engine/emissions codes. I could be wrong, though.

thanx guys. If (when) tranny craps out can a shop do anything to improve its life span other than repairing damage? Hate to buy a used tranny or just repair the problem unless the car gets a new home.

I have a shop by my house. It's actually a firestone tire place. that will do diagnostic work for a fee but if it's a repair they can't do then the won't charge a thing. Which is often the case with trans work. Maybe you can find a place that does that by you. Unless you live in Detroit, i'll tell you where its at. I lost over drive on my mercury sable and it was a shift solonoid. The car was only a few years old but past warranty. Thats why I bought the five speed ZX2, You can shift and shift untill the gears are physically damaged.

located in central Ky. Guess I'll try to have codes pulled to check sensors. Happened quickly so I'm afraid band snapped. Think I'll have dealer run vin to see if reman tranny has any warranty left. long shot but nothing but time invested.

Ok guys think tranny is probably doa. How much can I expectto pay for a reman and what models of tranny fit a 98 zx2 sport?

any zx2 tranny will fit. don't know about other models though.
