Valve Rattle:
1989 Buick Regal
2.8 MPFI V6 70,000mi Engine Oil light flashes sporadically. No smoke, no leaks, no smell. Intermittent knocking sound coming from valve cover. Sounds like I need a valve adjustment. What do repair shops usually charge for this? ~L |

Re: Valve Rattle:
Welcome to AF!!
Actually there is no adjustment on the valves of this particular engine. I think your issue is directly related to the oil light coming on. Low oil pressure will cause the noise you hear and it probably is due to oil starvation. I would check about an oil pump replacement before dealing with the valve issue as I think that will solve the problem. Oil pump replacement $300 to $600 depending on the shop and labor rate. |
