brade rotors rust?

how do I take the rust off the brake rotors? The rust is causing a pulsating feeling. The brake pads are ok but the pulsating is getting on my nerves. I took the car in and the tech said nothing was wrong with the brakes but the rust was causing a pulsating feeling. I need help!

It sounds more like you have excess lateral runout - warpage so it may not be worth cleaning any rust off the rotors. Also, make sure the calipers are working properly and the caliper slide pins are properly lubricated.

BTW - The wheels must be properly torqued in a star pattern and 100 ft-lbs. Improper wheel installation can cause vibration and pulsing of the brakes.

It will depend on how bad it is. No doubt it will be an annoyance. We ran with warped rotors on our Regal LS for over a month until I had time to get all the parts and re-do the brakes. If it gets worse I would take some sort of corrective action.

I quess my wife has been driving the car for about a YEAR with the pulsating.

You probably just need new rotors. Shouldnt cost too much. Brembo makes OEM blanks that are superior to anything the shops will slap on there and last alot longer too. www.tirerack.com

I disagree on the issue of Brembo. The Brembo OEM style rotors are garbage. Excessive rotor warpage around 6 months use. You might check out the reviews at tirerack. Also, we have a few documented cases right here on AF.

It probably depends on what car you have. What do you have? The GM caliper design is not exactly a marvel of engineering. Based on a single piston sliding caliper so they are rough on rotors. I stick with OEM AC Delco and/or Raybestos PG on my Regals.

I have a Civic. Much easier on rotors than a heavier car, obviously. But it is also a one piston caliper. Even since I got rid of my cheap generic rotors and put on Brembo's with Akebono pads they have been flawless. They have awesome bite and low fade. I agree with AC Delco, they are quality products.

We have a few local guys in our GP Club that have Brembos but they spent the big bucks on the Brembo power slotted/drilled type rotors. They do have great stopping power. But the typical Regal is just a typical family style commuter, grocery getter. Brembos would be overkill.
