My HP estimation

Ok, The local DSM guys have helped me a little with my car, and we are estimating my car at 300HP... Here's the list of what's done to the car...

stock motor (fresh set of heads, a/b 10k on them), stock injectors, stock 14b
New headgasket (not sure of what one, but I wanna say Fel-pro)
now the mods:
Walbro 255lph
Turbo XS MBC (set at 16.5)
FMIC (not sure of dimensions, medium size)
2.5" exhaust
K&N filter
APexi SAFC-II
Zoom Stage II clutch
removed A/C, PS, and CC
cat delete
Mozart 4.5" Muffler

other mods (non-performance)
Autometer Boost, A/F, and Oil pressure gauges
17" Eagle Alloys with Riken Raptor (AA traction)
stripped out rear seats
few weight reductions...

The previous owner ran the car 8.7 in the 1/8 (translates to a 13.1 in the 1/4)
the owner before that ran it at 8.3 (translates to 12.8)
this was before the SAFC, exhaust, clutch, and tires (burned out past the grandstands)...

So the guys said the car (depending on driver) was capable of a mid 12...
All of this sound right?

Re: My HP estimation

No, yes, maybee. I've seen cars get into numbers where you scratch your head wondering what in hell just happend. Then Their are some of us (like myself) who cant get a decent time slip if god came down and sat next to us... I've heard of people getting into the 12's with less..

Re: My HP estimation

ok, so it's quite feasible...?!?... I just know what the guy's around here have told me... I'm new to the 4g63... trying to work my way up...

Forgot to mention

Magnastar 8.5mm wires
NGK iridium plugs

Idk that those will make much of a difference... but who knows...

Re: My HP estimation

Why not just dyno it and get some real numbers if you are really that interested in how much power you are making? That would solve all the guessing and you would know where you really stand.

When I had my walbro pump and with my mods listed I hit a 13.301 in the 1/4 on 18psi. So...it could happen.

True, and I completely agree with you... but the problem is, I work 8-5... and there's no local dyno's... they're all a couple of hours away...

I would really love to dyno it, but I can't take a day off work to drive way outta town and do this... I'm looking to estimate for the moment... once I get the entire setup straightened out, and have had a chance to know what condition everything is in (I've had the car two weeks)... then I'll plan a trip to the dyno...

Re: My HP estimation

300 hp on a 14b pushing 16 pounds of boost? I cant imagine that much power with that set up. I would guess like 240-250.

I've walked on by Camaro SSs'... Mustang GTs'...

I feel that if I were only putting down 240'ish, that the Bonneville(SSEI) I raced woulda hung w/me... but it did no such thing...

I'm up running w/ Sti's (stock+ intake/exhaust)...

I usually run 93 octane, sometimes 100

Re: My HP estimation

I would say 260ish. You have to understand when racing Camaro SS's and GT Mustangs that you have quite the weight advantage on them. So even if they are 300+ hp cars it doesn't take 300+hp on your end to keep up with them. Especially when you weight 500+ lbs less than they do. I think your car is probably quite fast, but my best guess would be about 260 hp or so. But than again dyno the car and find out.

oh ok... that's probably where the difference is coming from... I was quoted from the crank... that's a/b right then... with a ~15% drivetrain loss, and 300 crank hp, that's 255 to the wheels...

makes a little more sense now...

Re: My HP estimation

you walk on camaro's with that setup? thats amazing. and STis? damn.
I know you have a tsi, but is it awd or fwd? (i only ask because i know some tsi's are front wheel drive...right?)

what do you guys think I have with my fwd setup?

I'm going to the track tomorrow, wednesdays they have open track, and im gonna run a couple times and see what happens. my problem is that i cant launch to save my life. Either i bog down too much or I peel out too much, or worse yet I ride the clutch for about 20 feet.

I'd go a wee bit lower than that. 16lbs on a 14b? There just isn't enough airflow.

and whp is all that's worth talking about really.

Also, you can't judge 1/4 times by 1/8 times. It just doesn't work that well. The higher gears have a lot more load on the engine and it is MUCH MUCH more likely you will have timing / knock problems up top rather than just the 1/8

Re: My HP estimation

he's right... more stress on the motor, more possible knock... thus, retarded timing... but you already knew that... lol
