97 GP won't start
My 1997 GP will not start. It cranks fine and is getting fuel. Fuel pump comes on and seems to work fine. I checked fuel line and we got fuel. It will not start though. I think that a sensor has gone bad. When it has started in the past with the same symptoms it will run fine but at times it seems to hesitate and then my RPM gauge bottoms out and won't work but the car still runs. I turn it off and then it has a hard time starting again. Today I could not get it to start at all. Problem has seemed to get worse over time. 3800 series v-6 SE. Any help?

Re: 97 GP won't start
Welcome to AF.
Based on your symptoms it looks like your crank position sensor (CKPS) is bad. The crank sensor generates timing pulses to the ignition control module (ICM) and part of this signal is used by the ICM to feed the tachometer. Also, just to be sure fuel pressure should be checked with a fuel pressure tester to see if it is in specs at the front fuel injector rail, Fuel Pressure Regulator Schrader valve.

Re: 97 GP won't start
Thanks,
I have read several other threads about same issue and the CPS seems to be the cause of most of the problem when GPs won't start and the TACh bottoms out for no reason. I am replacing it now I will let you know if that fixes the problem |
