Arrow looking at a 94 Civic

A co-worker is selling a 94 Civic. It has 94,000 mi.
Thinking of buying for my daughter as a first car.

Co-worker says the car runs fine. Normal body wear EXCEPT about 1/8 of the front bumper was torn off when a small snow plow clipped the car on the passenger side when it was parked in a lot.
Car passed NJ state inspection last week.

Here is a picture of the damage

Any input how hard to replace the front bumper?

Also car relaibilty or know issues I should look for?

Its a 4 door and i can probally get it for 2,000-2500.

:Yeah, that's a good deal. A front bumper is easy to replace and there are lots of stock ones floating around from people swapping them for aftermarket ones. Other than cosmetic issues, as long as the owner has taken good care of it and done the regular maintenance, it should be a very reliable car for your daughter. Aim for $2000

Re: looking at a 94 Civic

The damage is very minimal and all you need to do is pick up a used bumper. Ask for maintenance records and check to see if the timing belt and water pump have been replaced. These two parts are they key for buying Hondas. If the owner has yet to have replaced the t-belt and water pump, I would try to shoot for less than 2000.

He had the timing belt chamged at 60,000 miles, he was not sure about the water pump. Isnt it the norm to change the water pump while your changeing the timing belt? I will see if he has the recipts for the work

Yeah water pumps SHOULD be done with timing belts, some people just decide to skimp and only change one or the other, which is a dumb thing to do IMO. Make sure you check for the reciepts. Good luck

Re: looking at a 94 Civic

Well I picked it up last Fri. What a great little car. Handles nice, great visability.

Gave it a good cleaning and waxed her up my daughter could not believe how good she looked.
Changed the oil and air filter.

Going to replace the front bumper that;s damaged in the next few weeks and she is done for while.

Re: looking at a 94 Civic

Feel kind sad keeping my own thread alive.

But for those who may need the input. I bought and installed the new bumper cover today. It was easy. I was by myself so that made it harder then it should have been seating the bumper holding it and trying to screw in the bolts.

Cost me 75 bucks for a new cover.

a problem i notice with alot of honda"s is that if they sit for a period of time the altenator likes seizing up make sure you run it once in a while I work in a garage in vermont and see this quite often.

Re: looking at a 94 Civic

i see that you already fixed the bumper problem, but Hondas in general are fairly simple to work on....i've done most everything you can think of to a Civic/Integra.....great cars and a great present for you daughter
