Exclamation Trans fluid service

Well first off im not doing a flush, i just want to drop the pan do the service that way. My understanding is that after you have your car all jackd up and on stands you can start unbolting the tranny pan(with something to catch the fluid underneath) and let the fluid drain. Here comes the frist question, i assume when unbolting the pan fluid will start to leak out, do you take it slow and let all the fluid drain out or....Then once all the fluid is out, replace filter(idk what this involves ive never been inside my tranny ) then bolt the pan back up, pour fluid in thru the dipstick hole and check it, then start the car, and check/add as needed, and also, how do i make sure i dont over fill it? Im half paranoid about doin it, any comments, directions, ANYTHING on this is greatly appreciated

Re: Trans fluid service

You have the right idea. Is a procedure to unbolt so it starts draining out of one corner but I've never mastered that, it's a real mess but you can somewhat control it. Originates from the fact that the fluid level is above the pan seam. Be sure to clean out the pan and magnetic washer. I have an '02 Vulcan and drain out w/refill took 7 qts. (be sure to refill with Mercon V) I recommend letting it down level before you start filliing because the dipstick/filler tube won't take it very fast and too fast will result in new and expensive fluid on the ground/floor.

Your 94 taurus takes dexron 111 transmission fluid.
If the transmission pan has the thick stiff type rubber resuable gasket
reuse it.
Add about 3 1/2 qts and start checking with dipstick engine running.
On the final level check get it good and hot after 10-15 minute drive and recheck fluid level.
If way overfull drain some out down to correct level.

OK 2002 needs Mercon V
But also on them they need a total flush with the filter change.
You need to get all of the old fluid out of it or it will ruin the new fluid.
One of the ford deals.

Re: Trans fluid service

I would reccomend changing the filter along with cleaning the magnet while you're in there.

The owners manual should head you in the right direction.

Re: Trans fluid service

Irall--- My post was for MT-2500. We have known each other a while and I had to give a little jab. Sorry if it confused you. The site he gave you has a lot of free information for Ford owners. You can also go here and search a lot of info on your vehicle. Again, I apologize for the confusion.

I'm looking to have trans service done on my 03 taurus this week, and am still not sure which route to take. I really think I should drop the pan, change the filter and gasket, then refill with Mercon V. Is it really necessary to flush the trans? Thanks!

If you want to change half of your fluid a pan drop will work.

If you want to change all the old fluid I would suggest following this procedure.

I have done it several times on the three Taurus setting in my driveway.
