Mercedes CLK-GTR Original-Teile

I know the blue color is a bit too dark, but it still looks good IMHO.

This one was build it pretty much out of the box with the exception of CF decals and a little bit of PE here and there. The decals are not surprisingly the biggest hurdle, but can be overcome with some patience... and setting solution.

Enjoy!

Thanks for all your comments... I like these challenging decal jobs for some reason...

I've built two of the three CLK's... still need the D2. My Original Teile was a lucky enough to take prizes in every show it entered. I will post some images when I can if you're interested.

Re: Mercedes CLK-GTR Original-Teile

Great build!
Mine is in the making, with my building speed it should be ready in about 75 years give or take 5
It's a stunning car and it will look good beside the DTM Original-Teile.
I bet it took a while to put on all the decals on this one, I think I tinkered with the DTM for a week or so with drying time and all.
Please show us the rest of your builds, so far they have all been worth resting your eyes on.

Niclas... i could teach you how it can be done in a day... For my DTMs... I took one day per car , other then the warsteiner which took me about 2 hours . Trick is to use sunlight and multiple coats of decal softer.. could also use hairdryer for a faster drying process. If all goes well original-teile should take no longer then 6 hours to max 7 to perfect... My advice is to place your decal slowly... take your time to move it and find the perfect fit always work with wet fingers/hands. Good luck

I bet you can But I like to take my time and make sure I don't screw up anything on the way. It's to easy to forget some little decal or touch and screw up one that's still soft.

Re: Mercedes CLK-GTR Original-Teile

Ole, you've done yet another fantastic kit. I guess I should do mine too, probably in the afterlife with my current load of WIPs...

But I need some advice. What decal, or area on the body that was most trickiest to apply? Almost always I find a way to break my decals, get it all crumpled up and too soft to reapply, followed by a round of swearing and a bout of depression... and on this kit I don't want to mess it up.

Did you use clear to seal up the decals?

My advice is dont apply decal softer until ur really sure its perfectly in place.. ... if ur unsure on my advice you could pop by my DTM thread to take a look

Re: Mercedes CLK-GTR Original-Teile

Thanks again for the comments.

I agree... don't use decal sovent unless it's needed. It can leave a stain on the decals.

The trickiest decals were really the stripes because there were no visual reference. All of the decal laid down perfectly with little work, and once you get the pattern sorted out, it's not that hard.

I used urethane clear on top of the decals that goes into the cars paint scheme, so all small sponsor decals etc. were applied after the clear - just as they would have been on the real car.
