95 3.1

Ok, I'm finally at a loss. Van started missing and backfireing after running ten minutes or so. Then died. Would crank real frast and usually not start afterwards until it cooled for 10-15 min. I've replaced ICM,Cap,Rotor,Coil,Plugs and wires. Any other sugestions. It runs fine when cold. Just freaks when at operating temp. Also replaced Alt and belt recently. These items were after the problem occured.

Re: 95 3.1

It is fuel or spark: so
After it dies, check for presence of spark : in all probability, since you have changed it all, it should be OK...then conclusion is it lacks fuel.

After if dies, do you still hear the fuel pump humming for a second at KEY ON ?

If so, can you see the fuel being injected at the throttle body ? ('95 still did not have multiple port injectors, did it?) I have seen injector go dead in single injector throttle body, but there are 2 on this one so this should not be the case....and this would leave us with a fuel pump problem...that can be tested with a fuel pressure gauge before any temptation to change the pump.

Re: 95 3.1

But would it be causing the backfiring problem that is always present when it warms up? Thats what makes me think it's ignition related.

Did it ever get really hot? And/or are you losing any coolant ?

Nope. Normal operating temp's. Now the catalytic converter has a hole blown in it from a backfire- it appears that it's running WAY rich. The injectors seem to be putting a LOT of fuel into TB when idling(roughly idling- barely staying running).
