Front Door Speaker Wires

Hello!

I don't know much about cars, never installed a radio etc etc... Bare with me please.

My speakers on the doors have never worked since I owned the car (6 years). I finally decided to figure out the problem. I pulled out the standard radio and noticed that nothing was plugged into the top socket at the back of the radio. I looked at the color of the speaker wires and didn't see them running into radio. The answer would be to simply plug in the speaker wires but I can't find the end of the wires. I've looked but can't find the wires. The tweaters and the rear speakers have always worked fine and still do.

Can anybody help? Give me a starting point? Any help is apreciated!

Thanks so much!

Re: Front Door Speaker Wires

If memory serves me, a set of common wires goes to the tweeters and front speakers. It branches about a foot from the tweeters. Check your front speakers to see if they are blown. Connect them temporarily to the back speaker connection to test. If they're good, see if the wires got damaged where it goes between the door support and into the door.

Thank you very much for the help Doug. Since I'm so new to this I have a couple questions about your answer:

1. are you saying that the same wire serves both the tweeters and the front speakers?

2. when I pulled out the radio, all of the speaker wires were fed into a type of clip that just snaps into the radio. Will I still be able to test the front speakers to the back speaker connection with this type of connection?

3. What's the easiest way to do this? Should I be removing something other than the radio to get better access to the wires?

Thanks again! Your help is much apreciated!

Re: Front Door Speaker Wires

remove the speakers from the front door. Take the back speakers off or disconnect the wires from the speaker (inside trunk) and connect the wires to the front speaker. Turn on the stereo to see if the speaker works. I'd say it's most likely that the speaker is broken rather than the wiring if the tweeter works. The one area of weakness in the wiring is where it goes into the door. If there is a short, it will prevent the tweeter from working. If there is a open circuit, then just the door speaker would have a problem. One way to check is to disconnect the wire harness from the radio, connect (touch or tape) the + and - speaker wire together, then check for continuity at the wire harness. Next separate the speaker wires and see if there is still continuity at the speaker connection on the harness. You will need to disconnect the tweeter when doing this test.
