Good makes and models?

First off I'm new to these forums, so bare with me here, haha.
Ok, well here's my issue. I drive a Ford F150 sport, and I'm getting tired of driving a truck like that that's not the quickest, and I'm planning on building a project car sometime soon, and selling the Ford. I'm still a bit new to parts and junk, and only have common knowledge to how all the parts work and names, yet haven't gotten gritty with experiencing the parts or anythign of that nature.. yet. My main concern is that I'm thinkign about just getting some typical car for cheap and completely tweak the hell out of it. I don't want ot get a sports car, for I'm not even 18 yet, and sports car insurance would eat me alive. Can anyone tell me any good models or the most reliable makes that I should go for? I'm not too picky as far as imported cars go, for all that matters is what's under the hood, not the maker. And I'm not going for just a ricer, I'm going for an all out racing car, yet not quite defined as a sports car. I also have some close connections w/ autoshops and real good friends w/ a few mechanics that build their own vehicles piece by piece, so that's a help.

Thanks

Re: Good makes and models?

haha, I was thinking about doing that for awhile xD. Well, it's a year 2000, os it's still the old model. Extended cab w/ the BA stepup on the side xD. I'm just tired of the truck in general though. It needs a lot of work if I plan on making it a racing truck. And besides, I'd rather be sitting as low ot the groudn as possible. I was just driving an 06 vette the other day, and wow, I fell in love w/ how low it was. It the power that I fell in love with, because I'm used to riding on 500+ hp... just not in MY truck.

Re: Good makes and models?

Hah, ya, it was DAMN nice. The oddest thing was the first time I've driven one, I was heading to this one girl's house, and her parents were there and they like.. fell in love w/ me after they heard that I'm bout to head over to University of Texas. So the dad was so thrilled, he wanted to show me his car, and gave me the keys and told me to take him around. Awkward, but you can't turn down opportunities like that xD.

Re: Good makes and models?

haha nope, not yet. December I will be. So I'm hoping by then I'll have my car for the most part, and then from there I can get some other parts or cash for more parts. So yup, I'm not 18, so that knocks any sports car choices out of the question. I don't want to get stuck beeing a teenager, a male, adn not yet 25. I'd rather not double my insurance rate. I'm thinking of just sticking w/ some kind of stock car and then doing as much performance work as I can to it. I just can't decide a good model to choose that isn't OVERLY taken, like a Civ, but still something that's cheap, and looks decent. I'll make sure it performs just perfectly. And I guess I have to have plenty of hoodspace if I plan on geting a v8 w/ a supercharger, and later a turbo. But like I've said, I haven't quite seen how big many cars are, so I have no idea what exactly I should look for.

Re: Good makes and models?

The big time weight advantage the Z06 has over my car makes it a close race.
Haven't actually raced one heads up yet. I want to though.
