plugs keep turning red

i can't figure out whats wrong but my spark plugs keep turning red once they get 200 miles on them then they start fouling out, im useing, auto lite platiums in my 91 gst with a 4g63t, what does this red coating on my plugs mean and why do they keep fouling out?

Re: plugs keep turning red

I'm not sure about the red coating but you should be using NGKs and you can't find them at Autozone. Has this been happening to only those kind of plugs?

That's really fucked up, I've never seen "red" plugs. Do you have a logger?

Re: plugs keep turning red

no i dont, heres whats happining, when i drive around for awhile maybe 15 minutes it will be fine and then all of a sudden my car will have no power, but if i really give it gas at a certain rpm it will go away. sometimes it throws a code and it keeps saying my coil is bad. but i replaced my coil 2-3 times now with new coils and after 2-3 weeks the problem comes back. But the plugs in my car only got 500miles on them and the inside insulater keeps turning a bright "rusted" color red. And remenber it only happins after the car warms up for a bit.

Re: plugs keep turning red

Im not sure whats causing the red but I know your not supposed to use platinums. Just use coppers or Iridiums or ok too. Theres a thread about that kev said no platinums so I'm just goin off what he says.

Re: plugs keep turning red

For one, stop using platinums. They are horrible under boost.

Post a pic of these "red colored" plugs, I want to see it.

Re: plugs keep turning red

also i talked to 3 other dsm'er's in my area and they are all having the same issues, no one knows for sure what it is from. but i have heard that it could be due to the lack of good pump gas now days. who knows all i know is my car is running like hell

yeah my best guess is that they water-down their gas. i think it would be easir if we had a logger.

Wow, wtf is that. Looks like rust. We need some expert advise here !! If the spark plug is black, what would that indicate? Rich?
