Re: fog light switch

I just replaced the bulbs in my Ride Control switch with blue LEDs. Probably similar. I pulled the switch out and used a small screwdriver to pry up the clips so I could get the back half of the assembly out. The stock bulbs were soldered to the board. Simple to de-solder and replace if you know how to solder. Mine's an 02, but the basic assembly methods might be the same.

Re: fog light switch

I'll check to see if I can do that. So then if its soldered I just take out the bulb and then resolder the new one?

Re: fog light switch

Should be all you have to do if it's like mine. If you don't already know where to get new bulbs, post a pick when you get in to them. I still have the two from my Ride Control switch. If they're the same, you can have them.

Re: fog light switch

Thanks. I should be able to get the bulbs at autozone or one of those places shouldn't I? I don't know how to solder but i'm pretty sure i can. I think i saw one of things at adavanced auto parts like for $20, its like the one on tv thats gets hot fast and cools to the touch jaja. this one should work right?

Re: fog light switch

Not sure if they would have the bulbs. Once you get it apart, you'll see what I mean, if it's like mine. That soldering iron should work, though.

Re: fog light switch

He's talking about a ColdHeat soldering gun which does not get hot. The tip has a split in it and it heats by shorting out the tip. You have to touch both sides of the tip to what you are soldering or it doesn't work. The bulbs probably have to come from an electronics supply house instead of an auto store.

Re: fog light switch

Where are you?

Around here, there's at least two good electronic supply places. They aren't national chains, though. If you're in Southern California, there's a place called Mar-Vac in Costa Mesa, and LA. In Fullerton there's also Orvac. Unfortunately, Radio Shack is pretty much now just a cellphone/satellite TV place anymore.

Re: fog light switch

You can buy them online here: http://www.coldheat.com/NR/store/ I got mine from a PepBoys. Radio Shack sells them but if you want to save some money buy this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search It will take a few moments to heat up and remember...small electronic componets hate heat so be careful and you must heat the solder joint to melt the solder...then you have to heat the joint again after you have the new bulb wire installed and let the solder flow into the joint. Dropping hot solder onto the joint makes a cold solder joint and it won't last.
