Re: abs light on

Are the brakes always locking up or what? If your ABS light is on it is a problem with the ABS system itself, such as a wheel sensor or something that usually only a dealer can service. Your pad, rotors etc could be fine but if your abs system is non functional, then they behave like regular older style brakes(they may lock up when a lot of braking force used). Under normal circumstances youou could drive a car that way for a while as long as you realize the brakes may lock up if you have to stop quickly. Now, if your brakes are locking up all of the time, with normal driving, you may have a serious problem such as a broken brake pad holder, blocked brake hose / line, or any number of things. Please give more detailed information on how the brakes are acting. How often are these locking up? Do you hear any noises? Sounds like it could be serious. Almost no regular garages will deal with ABS system itself, just dealers.

Re: abs light on

I agree with JS that we need a little more specific info. if the brakes, especially the rears, are always locking up, check them. If a wheel cylinder is leaking, it can cause the shoes to lock up, causing both problems.
