What's involved in replacing a cruise control switch?

Hi guys,

I have an '02 Grand Prix GT with a cruise control switch on the turn signal/winshield wiper control on the left side of the steering column. Half the time I hit the RESUME button (which will increase the cruise speed by 1MPH for each push), the cruise just goes off completely. I'm assuming the switch is faulty.

How involved a replacement is this? Do I have to remove the air bag and partially disassemble the steering column to remove the switch?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks.

Here's a picture of the part, replacement is going to involve tearing into the steering column. I don't have my repair manual handy, but I don't believe it can be done without taking the steering wheel and air bag off, as they block access to a couple of the screws.

If he has the cruise control on the multifunction switch then it is the same procedure as below:

Tech Procedure Click Here

The steering wheel does not need removal. To disable the airbag pull the airbag fuse and let it sit about 30 minutes so the charge unit drains out.
