Mystery part in engine
I figured I would put this in problem diagnosis, seeing as how im having a problem identifying this part. lol.
One of the lines from my boost controller came loose last night, so i was putting it back on today. Then I was poking around the engine just looking at different things. I dont get much time in the bright daylight to look at the car or anything. Anyways, I came upon this. It was exactly in this condition, with the hose not attached or anything. Can anyone tell me what it is? Its behind the motor, just under the throttle body. I circled it in white.

Re: Mystery part in engine
Looks like the EGR valve. Top of mine looks exactly the same. Same shape and has the little vacuum hose coming out of it. Mine fell off once (no clue how) and it threw a CEL.

Re: Mystery part in engine
I dunno if its just psychological, but plugging it back on and ziptying it seemed to make my car run a little smoother. hmm...cant hurt though right?

Re: Mystery part in engine
A more clear picture would help. David, he's running a 4g63 and it's quite a bit different. But definitely keep it plugged in, but give us a more clear picture.

Re: Mystery part in engine
EGR will make your car run smoother, I remember learning it but it causes a rough idle after warmed up but not at WOT.

Re: Mystery part in engine
When thatline was disconnected it could have been making your car run shitty for 2 reasons, first that would be a boost leak, not huge but even a small one can have a negative effect, second it could have caused your car to go into "safe mode" because an emmisions control system wasn't working basically the ecu makes the car run shitty so you can limp it to the mechanic.

Re: Mystery part in engine
if having the egr unplugged would put it in safe mode, does anything have to be reset, now that ive plugged it back in?

Re: Mystery part in engine
It's usually just good to reset the ECU just in case. Disconnect the neg(-) battery and let it sit for 10 minutes. Should get everything fine then

Re: Mystery part in engine
Doesnt it actually only take like 10 seconds? Cant hurt to let it sit longer though.
