Door clicker does not work

I forgot the model Cadi my neighbor has, can find out. Their door clicker stopped functioning. Are all the GM door clickers basically the same ( function wise) can the clickers and the unit be reprogrammed. I have seen the clickers on sale on ebay. Anyway my neighbors stopped working, they have not tried their spare clicker.

No, they aren't all the same. There's two series of numbers on the back of the remote. The replacement one has to match those numbers exactly. And depending on the model of Cadillac, it will have to be programmed at a dealer.
Have you checked the battery in the remote?

This is being relayed to me through someone else, they were going to try the second remote as soon as they find it. My first thoughts were battery in remote, the remote unit itself, then possibly maybe a fuse for the reciever opened.

let me ask you a generic question about remotes. If I lose one, would i have to buy one with this same number on the back or buy a new set and have the dealer reprogram them ? can the remote be reprogrammed ?

Re: Door clicker does not work

I had a clicker once that I ruined by having it in my pocket then getting in our pool. I replaced it with a generic and reprogrammed it. There were directions for programming that came with the replacement clicker. The problem that I have, is the old clicker only worked intermittently (I had changed the battery so the battery was not the problem). I thought a new clicker would solve the problem. I think I have some sort of intermittent problem with the receiver, but I don't know where to start.

Yes, the numbers on the new remote must match those on the old ones. The remote isn't programmed, it's the car that's programmed to the remote. Some of the newer Cadillacs require the use of the TECH II programmer to program the car to the remote. Dealers are usually the only ones that have that programmer.

Re: Door clicker does not work

ok, so if i get two new remotes they should both have the same code on the back , step 2 is take them to the dealer and have the receiver or is it the BCM ? programmed with the tech 2 scan tool.

Let me ask you an off topic question. We just bought a new Malibu Maxx that has pass lock. I think there is a chip in the key, what do i have to do if i want to get another spare key ?

First, what year was this Cadillac? You never mentioned it. And the new remote must match the codes for the current one.

As for the Mailbu, the dealer will have to get the correct key code from the VIN to make a new key for it. It will probably be pricey, like $50 or more.
