94 jetta transmission trouble

My jetta will not move in reverse, drive or 2nd gear (auto transmission) it only moves forward in 1st gear. This all started when my battery went dead. I replaced the battery with one out of another car and it shifted just fine (worked for two days). I then went and bought a new battery and after installing it I have the same problem again, it only moves in 1st gear.
Does anyone know what I should do?

Your battery will not affect your transmission. Check your transmission fluid immediately! It's probably low and you may have dammaged it already. If this doesn't fix the problem, your trans is probably dead. Sorry.
