Frustrating percentages

Ever look around at your fellow human beings and think "My god, how do you people breath without help?" or "Please put down the potato, you're just going to hurt yourself."

So then, I believe that I've honed in some numbers to a decently accurate fix on modern society in the US. This probably applies elsewhere but I don't live elsewhere so I can't speak for them.

Please note that there is much grey area here, but you have to draw the line somewhere and so I have.

15% Basic intelligence and up

This category comprises everyone who can do things as simple as their own taxes to guys like Stephen Hawking. They can think creatively (aka "outside the box") and use logic to problem solve. They will believe something reasonable but not only seek to confirm it; they'll look for alternative viewpoints. They like to learn and do things that expand their perceptions of the world whether they think of it in such terms or not. They will recognize when something is not working and attempt to fix the problem. They're likely to be alumni to a college or university but just as often they are the small town mechanic or cubical dwelling accountant who is the one people go to with problems they can't solve. The main virtue most of these people possess is the ability to identify that which is important and they don't let themselves get bogged down meaningless bullshit.

70% Stupid but capable of learning

"The mouth breathing majority." Mostly disinterested in that which does not directly effect them. They'll tend to believe most anything that will fit in with what they want to think, even if it is totally absurd. If they attended a place of higher learning it was probably with the singular intention to drink and/or smoke weed. Desires a large set of rims and probably watches TV shows that deal with what happened on other TV shows. This chunk of society tends to be obsessed with other humans, be they ex-boyfriends, Paris Hilton or the contestants of American Idol. They tend to complicate simple things and bring the majority of their woes upon themselves. The biggest problems these people face is staying focused and not becoming trapped in other peoples bullshit. However for all their faults if the time is taken for the proper training they can perform complex tasks. If something is laid out with proper explanation they can usually convinced to change foolish beliefs.

15% Hopeless

These people steal car stereos, argue with each other in front of their trailers, backstab the other mindless sluts at the country club and in general are a burden on the rest of society. They focus entirely trying to get what they want though through their own actions usually end up preventing it from happening. They are totally blind to the fact they are the reason their life sucks. They'll continue to believe ridiculous things despite clear evidence to the contrary and attempt repairs by repeating the same action that didn't work the first time until they break something else. They are probably on some kind of drug or may simply drink and smoke to excess. All attempts at education have failed and many can barely function in society. Employment is limited to the most basic grunt work for most although holding the job is essentially impossible.

Thoughts?

Re: Frustrating percentages

You make some semi valid generalisations that are fairly vague.

I question why you feel compelled to make them. Are you dissatisfied with your own life in some way? You seem full of pent up hostility and even anger towards the rest of society at large.

I think you're trying to read too much into this. I wrote that up there because it seems like the vast majority of problems in life are created by people being stupid. The results of which are quite often, as the title states, frustrating.

Then I would suggest you get yourself into therapy.

I don't see how getting frustrated with stupid people makes me homicidal.

Re: Frustrating percentages

I think your percentages are a tad off but pretty close. In my experience at McDonalds and in general life, the decent human being category is roughly 15%, the stupid but not helplessly stupid group is like 50% and the hopelessly dumb people are more like 35%. The more I am in the "real world" the more I want to go on a shooting rampage...

Re: Frustrating percentages

Get yourself off that fucking pedestal.

people like you really piss me off.

don't assume that's eveything's equal to begin with, it's not all fine an dandy until someone gets the freedom of choice.

not everyone has the opportunity for higher education, but you'd dropped them into the stupid category. maybe you should take time to think about this. i've had a good upbringing, good opportunities etc.. that's because my dad's worked his entire life to make money for my family.

others aren't so lucky.

take the time to think about others' lives. you're being an asshole about it.

just because you don't like them doesn't mean you can dismiss them as a "lower group of people".

2.2 Straight Six

Date of Birth: March 24th, 1989

You'll probably take this as an insult but just try to believe me that once you grow up a bit more and actually start to get out into the world you'll probably come to agree with me.

Wow, now thats what I call a total miss in the comprehension department. Where did I ever make it hardline rule that higher education is a requiste to be in the top 15%? I said the complete opposite, that intelligence can be found anywhere regardless of standardized education or how well off they started in life. They tend to have attended extended learning schools because people that want to do something with their lives besides spend the maximum amount of time drunk or watching TV usually find that additional learning is the way to go.

Yeah it sucks that some people don't start off in as good a position as others but you'll almost always find that the top 15% I was talking about find a way to overcome that. You seem to think I'm trying to say that you have to make X amount per year or have attended college majoring in Y to be "successful" aka the top 15%, which is not what I'm trying to say at all.

Re: Frustrating percentages

I think 2.2 Straight Six need to go get his ass a job at McDonalds. You will realize within the first couple hours that some people are freakishly stupid and there is nothing that can be done to help them.

Re: Frustrating percentages

wow i totally agree with that. Ive often thought of that scenario myself just never really wrote it down. I manage my parents restaurant, and ive realised that there are certain people in this world, who are just dumb. And its not really a small percentage. But society is very close to how you said it.

This is one of my favorite quotes of society.

Intelligent people talk about Philosophy
Average intelligence people talk about world events and current events
Lower intelligence people talk about other people

and if you think about it, it makes total sense. For example the ditzy dumb blonde can not carry on a conversation that doesnt include someone she personally knows without becoming bored. Every try to talk to a hot girl about the ideas if Einstein, Plato, Nastradomous, and other great thinkers of the past? Most of them will turn you down in a heart beat.

And to be totally honest, the ONLY reason people are poor and dont have anything is because they dont want to work for it. Im 22 years old and make about 20,000 a year. I have rent, car payment, insurance, foodbill, cellphone, cable TV/Internet, Gas/Electric, and any other bills that come up. But im living on my own, with my GF it a nicer apartment doing this fairly well.

I cant see how some people who make more money than i do, are still so poor. Untill one day i realised it, they are just stupid. There main concerns in life is how will they get drugs next week, whos dating who, how much there job sucks, im gonna go waste money on things i cant afford, i have money in my pocket so i might as well spend it.

but i also see there purpose, those stupid lazy people are what the rest of society stands on. They do the crap jobs that higher intelligence people wouldnt do. Someone had to serve me my McDonalds today. My trash doesnt pick itself up, the guys repaving the parking lot do a nasty job that iw ould never consider doing.

This is society, and untill we have the technology to replace all the low ends jobs with robots, we will continue to need the less intelligent. So next time your at McDonalds, thank that dumb fat girl at the window for getting pregnant at 16, doing drugs, dropping out of school, so that she can server you better
