pre ignition Knock

Anyone ever hear of Pre -Ignition knock. Got 4.3 v-6 that seems to have this condition, only when it is warm tho . 230,000 km on the engine . if you are familiar with this my question is . Can anything be done about it and if not will damage to engine occur to engine over time. I do know that the timing is computer controlled and cannot be reset.
Thanks Muff

Re: pre ignition Knock

The egr system would be the most common cause of this, inop or passages clogged. Not mentioning the year here as this was left out, but is it an obd11 truck?

Re: pre ignition Knock

A bi -directional scanner can command the egr system on, when this happens at idle the engine would almost stumble or stall, if not it is not working, only professional highline scanners can perform this test. Also check for pending codes. You can also check on the scanner, for knock sensor operation if so equipped.
