Replacing the flywheel on a 95 4.3l automatic....

Is this an 'easy' job? just wondering as local shops want 500-600 to do it.. and what a friend told me is 'all' I need to do us 'support' the engine with a jack or jack stand.. and lower the transmission.. which just involves disconnecting the driveshaft.. a crossmember and bolts on the torque-converter to flywheel...

then the flywheel is there for the picking..

is this pretty much accurate?? any 'watch out fors' that I am sure I don't know about?

help please... can't afford the $600 right now.. and I've got 2 bare spots covering about 25 degrees each on the flywheel..

thanks,
vballfun

The small task of ripping the trany is one of them easier said then done kinda things. I ripped mine out and it was a the biggest pain. but once you get it out. The fly wheel is right there. Is it 4x4, that made it more fun dealing with the t-case and then 2 drive shafts

Yes... it's 4x4.. so the Tcase has to come out as well huh?
sounds like it really is a pain..
do you just use a jack to support the tranny? and then lower it? is there an easy way to 'balance' it on a jack? I can just see it tipping and falling off and me not being able to get it back up on the jack..lol.

*sigh* not looking forward to this.. just finished redoing my head gaskets and was hoping to have a smoothly running vehicle for at least a few months before she begged for more attention..
